Don’t judge me by what I tell you about myself - look at the evidence. I am attempting to build a portfolio of original writing on a variety of subjects. Thus far my focus has largely been on arts reviews and opinion pieces because it is a diverting break from economics and political machinations. Also it is difficult to persuade anyone from a major corporation or government organisation that you are worth talking to as a freelancer.
I have, though, found some time to act as ‘welfare correspondent’ for ‘Varsity,’ one of the university papers. I am passionate about ethical issues as well as the arts, and in the future hope to incorporate my work with organisations like Amnesty and ecological charities within a broader media and journalistic remit. I am currently involved in PR for arts charity SmartNetwork. I am due to start a vocational course in magazine journalism this January, which I hope will lead to a permanent position on a current affairs magazine, or a more commercial-oriented publication (i.e. B2B. All of us sell out to the man eventually.)
